Red Giant over the Tatras, Slovakia

The colorful patch in the sky is not “Photoshop” or a poor edit – at the center lies Antares, a red supergiant and the brightest star in the constellation Scorpius.
It is about 550 light-years away, and its diameter is approximately 700 times that of the Sun. For comparison: if Antares were placed where our Sun is, its surface would reach beyond the orbit of Mars.
Surrounding it is the Rho Ophiuchi region – a colorful complex of dark, emission, and reflection nebulae, located about 400 light-years away. It's one of the most colorful areas in the sky and a favorite target for astrophotographers 😊
